Back Story June 2007Photo by Colby Katz (www.colbykatz.com) “The subject in the picture belongs to a subculture called Furries. I didn't ask him why a squirrel, but usually they pick a 'fursona' because they can relate to that particular animal. I met him at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2004. It's an annual event that draws over 100,000 people and has a following not only of comic book fans but sci-fi, anime, fantasy, and manga. He invited me to walk around the convention together. It was amazing to see how many people he made laugh and smile, and he was constantly being stopped to pose for pictures. He invited me to a mini furry get-together that evening at a hotel -- that's where the picture was taken. I used a Mamiya 7 with a 80mm lens. The picture was lit with a handheld Sunpack 120 Flash, and the film was Kodak Portra 400NC." -Colby Katz © Colby Katz (www.colbykatz.com) |
